:: Procedure for issuing entry visa to visit Tajikistan
Entry of foreign citizens to the country (except for citizens of some countries of the former USSR) is permitted with the current passport and entry visa that can be received at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, its representations and consular offices abroad. Currently the Republic of Tajikistan has diplomatic representations in the following states: Austria, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Byelorussia, Belgium, Egypt, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, USA, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Federative Republic of Germany, Japan.

Persons arriving from the countries where there are no constant representations of the Republic of Tajikistan can apply for entry visas to the consular bureau at the airport of Dushanbe city.

Visa processing period for those who wants to visit Tajikistan with invitations of the legal entities or constant representations of foreign states, international organizations that are accredited in the Republic of Tajikistan, individuals is from 3 to 5 working days not count the day of documents’ submission.

Tourist visas are issued at the consular representations of Tajikistan abroad. Processing period of this visa also doesn’t exceed 3 working days not counting the day of documents’ submission. To get business or tourist visas it is necessary to fill in the visa application forms and to provide the documents which list is provided by corresponding diplomatic and consular representations of the Republic of Tajikistan.

To get transit visas it is necessary to fill in the visa application form and submit the passport, visa of the state (states) of final destination and travel documents with approved exit date from Tajikistan. Transit passage of foreign citizens via the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan to the final destination point by air, rail, river or any other transport is allowed with the proper documents that are valid for entry to the bordering state with Tajikistan.

To make a trip on the territory of the border zone (for example, GBAO) special permit is needed that is issued by the territory department of the internal affairs of Ministry of Internal Affairs or Department of Internal Affairs (OVIR).

If the foreign citizen stays in the Republic of Tajikistan more than 3 days, his/her passport has to be registered whether in the hotel or in the department of internal affairs (OVIR) domiciliary.

From this temporal registration are exempted the heads of the parliamentary and government delegations, technical personnel of these delegations, members of their families, persons arrived to Tajikistan with UN passports and also foreign citizens who didn’t reach 16 years and arrived to Tajikistan for holidays and days off.

To apply for visa issue to the embassy or consulate of Tajikistan a person needs invitation (Letter of Invitation - LOI) from local organization, firm or enterprise (to get the business visa), individual (for private visa) or licensed tourist agency (to get tourist visa).

Issuance of visa to enter Tajikistan is the paid procedure.

It is necessary to take into account that after the applicant will submit the full information that is necessary to provide to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan (MFA) it will take 14 days before the letter of invitation will be ready and application during this time will be under processing at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. It may happen that MFA can refuse to issue visa and according to the international rules MFA is not obliged to explain the reasons of refuse to issue visa.

Completing the processing of application MFA informs the so called «number of telex» that is serial number of the message send by the consular department of MFA to the embassy or consulate in the country where the traveler has to get visa. Therefore, place to get visa has to be agreed before the submission of the application form to MFA as to change the place to get visa the person will have to repeat the whole procedure of getting visa with MFA and it may require additional time within two weeks.

Once you receive letter of invitation from inviting party you can apply immediately to the corresponding embassy/consulate of the Republic of Tajikistan in Your country to get the visa. Usually to get a visa in the embassy/consulate it requires from 1 to 3 working days. You have to be ready to submit your passport for some time, attach to it the photo, fill in the application form and pay the consular fee.

:: Documents that necessary to provide to get visa

To get visa you have to provide the following documents:

• Application form with the photo in 2 copies;
• verbal note (to get diplomatic, service visa);
• petition from inviting organization (business, labor, tourist and study visa);
• application and notification of OVIR of MIA RT (to get private visa);
• xerocopy of the passport of proper quality with the clear image;
• passport;
• receipt on payment of the state fee and consular fee

Note: passport and receipt are submitted after consideration of the submitted documents and positive decision on visa issuance.

Requirements to submitted documents:

Visa application form should be filled in readable handwriting (block letters) or typed on typewriter and signed by applicant, all answers should be complete and correct.
Passport of foreign citizen should be undoubtedly authentic and belong to the bearer, has no records, stipulations, notes, erasures and corrections unsealed by authorized bodies of relevant foreign state and has no pages torn out of passport, have at least 2 clear pages for visa and passport should not expire rather than 6 months before expiration of the visa.
Photos should be 3,5 х 4,5 cm (colour), printed from one negative, without hat and dark spectacles.
Notes: Please, be informed that for processing visa (except private visa) in Consulate Bureau of Consulate Department of MFA in the airport of Dushanbe for the period which is less than 45 days foreign citizens should submit filled visa support or visa application (2 copies), 2 photos and invitation. If foreign citizen fails to submit the above mentioned documents, visa processing and issuance will not be produced and these persons will be deported from the Republic of Tajikistan.
